DONNIE’S JOURNAL I am holding my original pace today - my feet are healing. Expect to visit St. Martin's, St. Matthew's and maybe St. Mathias, Midlothian. Had my first encounter with an unfriendly, unleashed dog but luckily the owner was close by and I am on my way again without a scratch. I am heading back to Boys' Home for a rest and will be back on the road walking on Monday, May 23.
CONT. Monday, May 23 - Started my morning off with a visit to the Hardee's in Stuarts Draft. Once in Richmond, I visited St. Matthew's and met up with the Rev. Mario Gonzalez, Assistant Rector. St. Matthew's hosted Mark and Kenton in February during a church visit. Also stopped by St. Stephen's, Holy Comforter, Diocese of Virginia office and St. Andrew's. Had my second close encounter with an unfriendly dog - by coincidence I was again talking on the phone with Ralph Costen, BR '70 during this encounter? Proceeded without a scratch again. Met up with Bobby Mills, BH alumnus who walked with me - Bobby works with special needs children. I appreciated the company. The most unusual thing seen thus far today is a cat being attacked by birds - the cat having gotten too close to the coveted nest. Lee and Janet Showalter helped with both the logistics and overnight accommodations on this part of the trek - what a big boost they were! I really appreciate the support from Manakin Episcopal Church.
