Cottages: The Residents Report | Spring 2012

Watkins Cottage

I actually did not celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December because I was out visiting relatives and friends that I have not seen in a long time. I celebrated Christmas on the 26th. I opened up all of my presents and played with them all day long.

For New Year’s Eve, I stayed up all night watching the New York City ball drop. We counted down from ten. TEN, NINE, EIGHT, SEVEN, SIX, FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO, ONE, HURRAY!!! We all laughed and hugged. It was a good time!

Zion had a great time with his family and friends too. Santa was very generous to him. For New Year’s Eve, he and his aunt celebrated with a lot of good food to eat. They watched the ball drop together and he stayed up very late.

D’Andre is the newest member of our cottage. He likes to play sports.

We are all trying hard at school.

Tyler stated that he got a chance to spend time with his family. He also said that he worked on his shooting for basketball to help his scoring average.

Over the holidays, John went shopping and spent time with his family. He also wanted to work on his interaction towards his houseparents and peers.

Trey spent time with his grandparents and his sister. He established that this year he will work on his soccer skills and be ready for the Alleghany High School soccer season.

Detron was with his family and spent time with some of his friends. He wants to improve his attitude for the New Year and wants to stay positive towards his peers.

He also wants to strengthen his basketball skills. Detron played on the Boys’ Home basketball team.      Adrian spent time with his family, including his brother Andrew from Greene Cottage during the break. Adrian’s resolution is to make good grades this semester.

Finally, I spent my holidays with my family and friends. I recently had a labrum tear in my right shoulder. My resolution is to become a better leader, a role model for the younger residents. Also, I am lifting weights and running to be a better athlete and rehab my shoulder for the upcoming football season.

Darling Cottage

Jovan is the cottage reporter from Darling Cottage. Darling Cottage had a great winter, New Year’s and Easter break. Mostly everyone went home and those who stayed, stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Whitmer.

At Christmas, we got a lot of great gifts not just from home, but from Boys’ Home and our sponsors as well.

I had a New Year’s party with my family. Memory watched the ball drop in the cottage along with Milliyon and Ian.

Devin just watched movies and Ermias watched TV all night.

So far, we are having a great 2012! We are trying to study hard. We didn’t have much snow this year so we’ve been playing outdoor sports lots.

Our houseparents, Mrs. Hurley and Mr. Costigan try to keep us all on schedule.
