Cottages: The residents report: Fall 2009

Watkins Cottage

My name is Keith. I am 11 and live in Watkins Cottage. I went home  for the summer to see my dad and had a lot of fun. We went to the movies and to the park. I am in the fifth grade.

Our cottage also got remote control cars and we have been playing with them a lot.

Kalab is in our cottage. He is  8 and is in the second grade. He likes to play outside and play with his toys and watch cartoons. Kalab is playing soccer again this year. He is a good soccer player like his older brother.

Zion is the youngest - he just turned 7. He likes to play with Kalab and also likes to play video games. He loves to watch the Disney Channel. He also plays soccer and is good.

Mrs. Costigan is our houseparent.

Sams Cottage

Hi! My name is Michael and I am reporting for Sams Cottage. The theme for our cottage is “Working to Be the Best on the Hill.”  We have six residents.

Mark has been a resident of Boys’ Home since he was in elementary school. Mark plays starting wide receiver and also starting defensive back for the Alleghany Mountaineers. He is a junior that maintains a very high GPA and also wants to become a pilot when he graduates from college.

Jhakee plays starting running back and defensive back for the junior varsity Alleghany Mountaineers. Jhakee is a freshman at Alleghany. He hopes to keep playing football later in his life.

Nishant has an incredible gift in music. He plays classical music and much more. His gift is so prodigious that Boys’ Home allowed him to teach music lessons. He is also a junior at Alleghany.

Coty is a junior at Alleghany. Coty is playing basketball for Boys’ Home. At Alleghany, he is in the yearbook club where his role is to take pictures of the most memorable moments to post in the yearbook. Shawn is our newest resident. He attends high school at the Boys’ Home School He has added a lot of humor to the cottage.

I am the only senior in the cottage. I am looking into many colleges in an effort to continue my education after graduating this year. I like basketball and track and currently attend basketball conditioning for Alleghany.

Our houseparents are Mr. and Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Thompson. Here in our cottage they encourage us to put our best foot forward. They also remind us daily that we have the potential to “Be the Best on the Hill.”

Jack Gordon Cottage

My name is Trey and I will turn fifteen in December. I am a resident of Jack Gordon Cottage  along with my friends Aaron, Josh (who is my roommate), Brandon M., Brandon D., Jackson and Milliyon.

We have kids who love to play sports like Milliyon and Jackson who like to play soccer. They are both on the same team which it makes it easier for Boys’ Home.

Brandon M. plays football for Clifton Middle School.

I like to play baseball, and also play basketball for the Boys’ Home Hilltoppers. Just like the other residents, I have a job on campus.

Our new houseparent is Mr. Brooks. Mr. and Mrs. Whitmer are also still our houseparents. They recently took us to Lynchburg to a snow resort where you can snowboard.

I have been at Boys’ Home almost a year now and it is fantastic. I would recommend any boy that has problems at home or school to come to this wonderful place. You can play basketball here and play on a softball team.

We here in Jack Gordon are looking forward to all of the different things to do now that the weather is cooler.
